TOP TEAMS
Oxon Hill
Poly
Potomac
Rockville
St. Charles
THE SKINNY
6-foot-5 PG Julius Ellerbe is a top-three prospect in the local 2021 classTwo-time defending state champion Poly loses some key role players once again, but should contend again behind the leadership of elite power forward Justin Lewis. St. Charles is in good shape to build off last season’s success, and the versatility of newcomer Darius Miles should help them reach their goals. Oxon Hill has one of the best 3A guard tandems in Ron Polite and Mike Sumner. Julius Ellerbe‘s arrival at Potomac is a significant one, and he should help the Wolverines make some serious noise this year. Jimmy Sorunke is one of the most dominant bigs in the state and will be the centerpiece for Rockville.
PREDICTIONS
State Champions: Poly
State Player of the Year: Justin Lewis
By the time March rolls around, Poly is usually playing their best ball of the year, and we don’t expect anything different from the engineers this season. Justin Lewis is one of the best power forward prospects in the northeast, and his ability to dominate on both ends of the floor should become evident throughout the campaign.
