Most Intriguing Prospects: Lanphier vs Manual
The third place game at the Abe’s Roundball Classic featured the two local squads Springfield Lanphier and Peoria Manual. These are two of the premier programs in central Illinois every single season. As all the games were throughout the day this was another nail bitter with Lanphier squeezing out the victory late by a final of 57-55. Take a look at our Most Intriguing Prospects: Lanphier vs Manual!
PF Karl Wright (Lanphier – 2019)
Wright is now the senior leader for this team. It seems like just yesterday he was making an impact on a veteran Lanphier squad as a freshman and now he is the man. At about 6’5” Wright is an undersized four man that is uber bouncy! In the best shape of his career with a lean build. He is always flying around trying to make a play. Seemed like every possession whether he got the ball or not you would see Wright spring up around the basket on both ends of the floor. At times he can be a bit wild with his shots around the cup. So athletic that he finishes some difficult ones though. Opened the game up with an 18 foot jumper. If he can hit this it really expands his offensive repertoire. Wright is also an impactful defender swatting five shots in the game. Recovers well on the defensive end when he does get beat. Can switch onto multiple positions defensively. He had 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
SG Tye Banks (Lanphier – 2022)
Banks could be the next standout guard from the city of Springfield. The 6’2” two guard has a nice frame and a smooth game. He struggled finishing in the first half missing several bunnies, but when the game was tight he made big plays. Big time slash off the bounce finishing with his off hand. Drilled a corner three. Also hit key free throws late to win the game. Plays under control and didn’t get rattled on a big stage. He had 11 points.
SG Jaden Snodgrass (Lanphier – 2020)
Snodgrass is a two guard with solid positional size and strength. He does a little bit of everything for this squad as a role player. Got on the glass for a put backs, connected from mid-range, and played solid defense. He had 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
PG Larry Hemmingway (Lanphier – 2019)
Hemmingway is a tiny point guard from Lanphier that made some big plays. He converted multiple nifty layups in traffic including a scoop shot. Scoring point guard that came up with a huge and-1 late. Struggled shooting it from beyond the arc. Pesky defender. He had 11 points and 3 steals.
SG TJ Price (Lanphier – 2021)
Price is a sophomore lefty that has a long and lanky frame. Probably about 6’1” now, but we could see him continuing to grow. Quick to the offensive glass. Finished with 7 points.
PF KJ Debrick (Lanphier – 2021)
This sophomore post intrigued us. The stats might not blow you away, but Coach Blake Turner started this 2021 big man and he showed potential. Big bodied post that is light on his feet for his size. High pointed rebounds especially on the defensive end. Skill set is still developing, but there are some tools there. Did drain one three to open the contest. He had 5 points and 4 rebounds. Also swatted 3 shots on the defensive end.
SG Pee Wee Brown (Manual – 2020)
Brown is the top prospect on Manual. He was very quiet early in the game. Couldn’t get in any kind of offensive rhythm. The shot from three didn’t go down all game long as he was 0-5 from beyond the arc. His motor started to run later in the game especially with his ability to use his second jump on the offensive glass for second chance opportunities. Athletic two guard that rebounds well. He had 13 points (5-14 FG) and 9 boards.
C Joshua Ivory (Manual – 2020)
Ivory is a wide bodied five man for Manual that takes up space on the interior. He isn’t the greatest athlete so he has to rely on positioning and his girth. Ivory rebounded ok in his area. Didn’t score much beyond a put back and a seal. Finished with 4 points and 4 boards.
PG Quentez Edwards (Manual – 2019)
Edwards is a tough on ball defender that put pressure on the opposing guards for Lanphier. Solid jump shooter knocking down a step back along with another from mid-range. Burst with the ball in his hands. Made a good amount of trips to the charity stripe. Needs to take care of the ball better as he had 9 turnovers. Edwards had 10 points and 3 steals.
PG Myriece Byrd (Manual – 2020)
Byrd is a small junior point guard that loves to bomb in threes. They have a ton of arc on them particularly from the corners. Went 3-4 from deep. He had 12 points.
SG Emaryon Byrd (Manual – 2021)
This Byrd is a sophomore that is a little bigger. He has long arms and a projectable frame. Got out in transition for a score and got to the line where he went 4-7. He scored 6 points, but was 1-9 from the field.
