Monday Thoughts
After taking in multiple games last week, these are some of my conclusions:
The Guards Of Lewisville
In high school basketball a team may have one or two guards on their team that are possibly college prospects. Lewisville has four guards in their starting lineups that are college prospects. Freshman phenom Keyonte George, Juniors Kj Pruitt, O’cyrus Girtmon and Kylin Green. Against Forney the 4 guards of Lewisville each scored double digits in a dominating win 81-51.
Keyonte George / 6’3 / SG / Lewisville/ 2022
George is one of the best scorers in the state and possibly in the nation for his class. He is an effortless scorer that can score from all 3 levels. Keyonte has a textbook jumpshot that allows him to feel it up from behind the line. Solid ball handler that takes angles well get by defenders to score at the basket.
Kj Pruitt / 6’3” / Pg / Lewisville / 2020
Kj Pruitt is a big point guard that can play the 1-3 for his high school team and has even shown the ability to post up smaller guards on the block for easy buckets or kick outs to open teammates when double team. He made some great passes against Forney and made something happen almost every time he touched the ball.
O’cyrus Girtmon / 6’2 / Combo / Lewisville / 2020
Girtmon is a very athletic 2 guard who attacks the rim violently. Good explosive 2 way player for the Lewisville Farmers that doesn’t mind guarding the opposing teams best player if needed.
Tre Jones leads Kennedale over Argyle.
Argyle is known for being a basketball powerhouse in Texas for 4A. They traveled to Kennedale for an early 4A showdown. This game featured 2 state Ranked seniors, Maxwell Valentino of Argyle and UTA Commit Tre Jones of Kennedale High. The two seniors battled well against each other but Jones and his Kennedale Wildcats were too much to handle and ended up defeating Argyle 49-35.
Tre Jones / 6’5” / PF / Kennedale / 2019
Jones is an explosive forward that uses athletic ability to finish around the rim and over defenders. Showed that he can sit down in guard as well. He did a great job of frustrating the Argyle’s best offensive scorer with his tough defense.
Maxwell Valentino / 6’5” / Forward / Argyle / 2019
Valentino is a versatile forward that can score it from inside or outside. Knows how to utilize ball fakes and pump fakes to get past the defender. Tough player that does whatever you need him to do.
Keller Indians Backcourt plays big in a hard fought victory over Mansfield Summit.
The Keller Indians don’t have much size on their basketball team. However they do have heart in a talented backcourt with Preston Hannah and Tommy Brubaker played very poised and knocked down some huge shots against Mansfield Summit High. Mansfield Summit May have lost the game but I was very intrigued with Junior point guard Alerick Hall and senior big man Nick Davis.
Preston Hannah / 6’0” / PG / Keller / 2019
Hannah is a skinny crafty ball handler that knows how to make a play happen with the ball in his hands. He doesn’t look like a basketball player but has good skills to go a long with nice looking stroke.
Tommy Brubaker / 5’9” / PG / Keller / 2020
Brubaker is a solid ball handler that plays with toughness and not afraid of anyone on the court. He sees the floor well and makes good decisions in transition.
Alerick Hall / 5’9 / PG / Mansfield Summit / 2020
Hall is a fast point guard with good ballhandling abilities that can get past his man and find his open teammates. Capable shooter that will knock down open looks when his feet are set.
Nick Davis / 6’9 / PF / Mansfield Summit / 2020
Davis is a mobile big man that runs the floor hard and is an active rebounder. Needs to work on getting stronger down low and being able to score more on the block.
