Early Signing Period 2019
The start of the early signing period starts on Wednesday and three members of the senior class in Oregon will be inking their signatures on National Letters of Intent to play Division I basketball. The three that are signing just so happen to be the top three players in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings, and all three had college recruitments with different stories.
Here’s a look at the three young men that will be signing this week.
#1 – Marcus Tsohonis (2019 Jefferson) – Washington
Tsohonis originally earned a couple of early scholarship offers his sophomore year at Jefferson, but his college recruitment really didn’t take shape until he played on the AAU circuit with Seattle Rotary this spring. Playing in the EYBL, the profile of the 6-foot-4 point guard rose to new levels and after some great performances at the Peach Jam in July, he earned his first Pac-12 offer from Arizona State. Offers from Washington State, Fresno State, and Washington followed not long after, but it only took one official visit to Washington in September before Tsohonis decided to shut things down and become a Husky. Tsohonis will be signing his LOI in a ceremony at school on Wednesday afternoon.
#2 – Aaron Deloney (2019 Grant) – Vermont
Deloney’s recruitment certainly had its share of twists and turns. Playing with the Rose City Rebels on the EYBL circuit certainly increased his exposure to college programs and in April, the scholarship offers started to roll in from places from right at home (Portland State), near home (Northern Colorado, Eastern Washington) and further away (Cal Baptist, Howard). Things remained relatively steady throughout the summer and Vermont jumped in with an offer in early September. Deloney planned out visits to Portland State and Vermont but in the end it was only the Catamounts he visited and he committed to sign with them early while on the East Coast.
#3 – Jaden Nielsen-Skinner (2019 South Salem) – Portland State
Of the three early Division I signees, Nielsen-Skinner was the one to decide the earliest, shutting things down by committing to Portland State way back in January of his junior season at South Salem. For the young man known as “Skinny”, the opportunity to play at a high level close to home was more than enough for him to decide without much hesitation not long after he received the offer from the Vikings. Nielsen-Skinner has since made his official visit to campus and will be signing his letter-of-intent this week.
