Coppell Tip off Showcase Takeaways
Coppell Tip-Off Showcase Takeaways
The Coppell Tip-Off Showcase had a lot of talent in the building, here are some of the players that stood out.
Rockwall is forreal
Rockwall Hs. wasn’t talked about as a contender in 6A. but after the 5-0 weekend at the Coppell Tip off and big wins this season over state ranked Little Elm and South Garland that narrative has changed. A huge reason for the Yellow jackets success has been in large part due to the play of Samuell Williamson the Louisville Commit and Senior Shooting Guard Alec Grandstaff.
4 star Samuell Williamson the Louisville Commit was magnificent this weekend. He showcased his versatility and ability to be more than just a skilled offensive threat. Sam rebounded well on both ends on the floor and made some good passes to his teammates for open looks. He has had a great season thus far and is starting to find his name in the discussion as a possible McDonald’s All American.
Sam’s teammate Alec Grandstaff showed spectators that it’s not a one man army and that he should be shown some respect on the court as well. Alec hit a barrage of threes this weekend which isn’t a surprise because that’s what he’s known for. Grandstaff recruitment is somewhat quiet but I expect that to all change in the near future.
Tyrese Maxey & Chris Harris are charismatic leaders.
Tyrese Maxey and Chris Harris of South Garland Hs. are two of the best high school basketball players in the country. I was really impressed with how easy it was for them to score in multiple ways, I was even more impressed with how great they’re with interacting with their teammates. They were encouraging as well as communicating with their teammates at a high level. Kentucky and Texas A&M are getting two class act kids with big time games.
5 star Tyrese Maxey really understands how to score it in all 3 levels. He is explosive in the open court and can finish above the rim or through a defender with great body control. Maxey lets the game come to him and doesn’t force anything. Shoots it with range and can hit jumpers off the catch or off the dribble. One of the best on the ball defenders in the country. He understands how to guard players on the ball or in helpside.
Harris is a strong well put together basketball player. He is a 6ft.3 Sg. that plays with physicality and shoots it well from behind the arc. When Chris is in the zone he is hard to stop has the ability to score it in multiple ways. He reminds me of current Texas A&M Aggie Admon Gilder with how he has ability to fill it up. The 4 Star Harris is going to have a big year with South Garland.
Other Notables
Unsigned Senior Point Guards Tariq Aman from Coppell Hs. & Andre Nunley from Euless Trinity High school, are definitely college prospects. These two led their teams all weekend and both knew how to create plays for their teammates with the ball in their hands.
Andre Nunley is a stocky built point guard that has an endless motor. He is fast with the ball in his hands and also good at attacking the rim and finishing through contact or finding his teammates for scoring opportunities. He guards very well on the defensive end, whoever gets this player will be getting both a great leader and player.
5ft.9 Coppell Pg. Tariq Aman is as fast and quick with the ball than any player in the state. Tariq is a great facilitator that can also can also score it as well. He shot it very well this weekend and made defenders who decided to go under screens on him pay. Great on the ball defender that uses his quickness to frustrate opponents. Coaches who need a point guard should definitely check out this talented young man.
