Contenders, Sleepers, & Prospects: South Seven Conference
We are now in the month of November and that means the season is almost here! With that being said we are looking across the state at various conferences and previewing the teams and players to watch! Today we dive into the South Seven Conference!
Pre-Season Player of the Year
Amir Spann (Mt. Vernon)
Spann has been a prospect on the radar since before he even entered high school. This will be the year that he makes that big splash. As a sophomore the powerful two guard showed spurts, but in a conference that is theirs for the taking we look for this junior to have a big season scoring, rebounding, and locking down defensively.
Team to Beat
This will ultimately come down to the great southern Illinois rivals Centralia and Mt. Vernon. The Oprhans lost a lot last year with Javon Williams and cast. We will give the slight edge to Mt. Vernon with Spann, Luke Cooper, and potential breakout wing Simon Wilson.
Sleeper Team
Belleville Althoff has the best college prospect in the conference in Patrick Readye. Big and physical post who scores on block and boards. If their guards get him the ball watch out! Daulton Burgner and Ethyn Brown both are coming off strong summers on the travel team circuit.
