Next three games: vs John Carroll (11/28), @ Archbishop Spalding (11/30), vs Paul IV @ DeMatha (12/1)
Jordan Toles led the way in the Panthers’ 88-51 win over Mt. Carmel with 18 points. Ace Baldwin finished with eight points, six rebounds and 12 assists. Jason Murphy chipped in with 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Murphy continues to be a good rim protector through the first two games this season.
2. Mount Saint Joseph (2-0)
Last week’s ranking: 2
Last week’s games: win vs Curley 80-36, win vs John Carroll (75-49)
Next three games: vs John Carroll (11/26), vs Archbishop Spalding (11/28), vs Gonzaga @ DeMatha (12/1)
The Gaels took care of business in their opener by dismantling Curley 80-36. James Bishop led the way with 23 points. They’ll take on a young, talented Archbishop Spalding team this Wednesday as they look to start their season with a 3-0 record.
3. Poly (0-0)
Last week’s ranking: 3
Next three games: @ Digital Harbor (12/5), vs Wilson in Baltimore/DC Challenge (12/8), vs Ben Franklin (12/8)
4. Patterson (0-0)
Last week’s ranking: 4
Next three games: vs Wilde Lake (12/5), vs Curley (12/8), vs Aberdeen (12/10)
We saw Patterson in action for the first time this past weekend at Dulaney’s annual Thanksgiving tip-off. The Clippers looked very strong led by senior guard Gerard Mungo. TJ Thomas and Marvin Price will be key contributors this year. Price continues to get his feet under him after sustaining a knee injury that kept him sidelined all summer. Patterson did a great job speeding up their opponent with a hectic full court press and their urge to push the tempo offensively was effective.
5. Dulaney (0-0)
Last week’s ranking: 5
Next three games: vs Curley @ Johns Hopkins (12/7), vs Catonsville (12/12), @ Towson (12/19)
Dulaney had a solid showing this weekend in their scrimmages. Ike Corish showed improvement with the ball, being aggressive as a driver. Ryan Conway scored in bunches and did a nice job facilitating the offense. Cam Byers finished nicely around the rim and showed glimpses of how he has the chance to be a brute force on the block in county play. Che Evans was effective offensively. He had a handful of big time moves off the dribble finished by a pull-up jumper. He also shot efficiently on catch-and-shoot three’s.
6. Boys’ Latin (1-1)
Last week’s ranking: 6
Last week’s games: loss vs Goretti 60-56, win vs Severn 71-51
Next three games: @ Friends (11/28), @ Malvern Prep (11/30), TBA @ The Kiski School
Despite losing to Goretti, Boys’ Latin stays put in this week’s rankings. The backcourt of Cam Spencer and Cam Watts proved to be one that will give teams fits. The Lakers lack a ton of size, but junior forward Jake Nichols did a nice job asserting himself in their win against Severn with a game-high 25 points.
7. McDonogh (2-0)
Last week’s ranking: Unranked
Last week’s games: win vs Chapelgate 75-29, win @ Friends 56-50
Next three games: vs Mt. Carmel (11/27), @ Gerstell (11/30), @ John Carroll (12/5)
McDonogh enters into the top-10 because of their dominant start. They played much weaker teams, but considering how young this team is, their potential is very high. Once the group starts clicking and the talented freshman class adjust to the varsity level, they’ll be a very tough opponent. Dani-Dennis Sutton finished his first high school game with a double-double in the win over Chapelgate. Curtis Jacobs looks like an even better athlete than he was last season. The Eagles pulled out a tough win without Jacobs’ services against Friends yesterday. Senior guard Drew Green got going with a game-high 26 points.
8. Loyola (3-1)
Last week’s ranking: Unranked
Last week’s games: win @ Curley 55-36, win vs Gerstell 60-52, win vs Cristo Rey 63-45, loss @ Spalding 67-63 OT
Next three games: vs Goretti (11/28), @ Mt. Carmel (11/30), Bishop Ireton @ DeMatha (12/1)
The Dons have gotten off to a fast start with three wins. Junior wing Mitch Fisher has been the topic of conversation, especially after his 36-point performance in the win over Curley. They’ll face a good Goretti team this Wednesday, which should help us get a feel for just how good this team is.
9. Annapolis Area Christian (1-0)
Last week’s ranking: 8
Last week’s games: win vs St. Mary’s 73-62
Next three games: @ Pallotti (11/27), TBA @ Eagle Classic (11/30), TBA @ Eagle Classic (12/1)
10. New Town (0-0)
Next three games: vs Southern (11/29), @ Catonsville (12/5), @ Roland Park (12/7)
Honorable Mention: Gilman (0-0), City (0-0), Milford Mill (0-0), Archbishop Spalding (1-0), Mervo (0-0)
