5 Takeaways: Davis vs. Bountiful
Davis and Bountiful was another one of those games we wanted to keep an eye on because it was going to be a fun match-up between two good teams. Well, we were not disappointed one bit.
Recap
Davis jumped out to a double digit lead in the 1st quarter but you have to hand it to Bountiful and their coaching staff as they were able to keep their players focused as they chipped away at the lead and were able to send it into overtime. Davis was able to pull-off a 79-75 victory at home in OT.
Jake Sampson and Tyson Garff can Ball!
Jake hit 9 three-pointers and had 5 rebounds in a night where he had 31 points. Tyson had a nice game as well scoring 20 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assist. These guys can flat out score. They will need all of that and more as they do have an extremely tough schedule which we LOVE! They have Wasatch Academy tomorrow in what could be a great game.
Bountiful is GOOD!
Cameron Chism, Robert Whaley and Brig Willard are a handful. 5A BEWARE! We expect Bountiful to rebound from this game. We think that if they shoot a little better from the outside they could be one of those teams that nobody will want to face. They a few more tough games that will get them ready for region play in American Fork, East and Wasatch. The Braves are definitely front-runners in their region.
The Best Play the Best
This year has been a lot different from years past in Utah as we see teams that we know are good not avoid playing other teams that are good. It’s fantastic to see teams like Davis and Bountiful play each other knowing that they could lose, but realize that regardless of the result they will get better. Bountiful just finished playing and beating Lone Peak. Davis is on it’s way to play Wasatch Academy and even Pleasant Grove later this year. We salute both programs for making this possible for us, the fans and their players. The top 5A teams are playing the top 6A teams which is fantastic. If only UHSAA would create an open division.
Will Both Teams Win Their Region?
Davis might have a tougher road to a region championship as Weber is playing well, Fremont and Syracuse are always a threat as well. On paper Davis is more talented that either of these teams but playing with a bulls-eye on your back isn’t always easy. If Davis can continue to get production from their supporting cast they should be fine.
Bountiful should have an easier road as Viewmont is down, Woods Cross is okay and Farmington is just learning to win as a new school. The Braves are legit contender and could be a threat to Olympus and any other teams in 5A. Looking forward to their game against American Fork another 6A school that will help them get better.
Good Luck to both teams.
