- Darrius Washington, Fern Creek – Darrius is long, athletic and well built after hitting the weights hard since last season. His skill level is high and continues to improve. The only question about Washington’s potential is how much more Darrius will grow. If he hits 6’9 or taller he’s a post player but if he stays around 6’7 he will need to show the ability to play out on the wing and guard that position. Regardless, Washington has a high ceiling and has shown a big time work ethic that should help keep him around the top of the player rankings until graduation.
- Trey James, Sheldon Clark – Trey continues to develop as a prospect. His defense and shot blocking are ahead of his offense but he is in the gym working to improve his post game and show some ability to stretch the floor. The biggest issue for James as a high major prospect is that he lacks quickness running the floor. If Trey can get quicker he can start to see scholarships coming his way in the not too distant future.
- Cearius Warren, Southern – One of the best athletes in the state regardless of class, Warren has a super high ceiling and could be one of the best players in the class if he reaches his potential. “King” has a chance to be a top 150 recruit nationally if he continues developing his game and plays with a consistent motor. His development is going to be one of the more interesting to track as he matures physically and starts adding to his game.
- Noah Gordon, Shelby County – Noah has a chance to be a really solid college prospect if he can keep developing his game and improving his conditioning and athleticism. Gordon has a solid set of post moves and can play inside and out but tends to float around the perimeter a little too much. Noah has a nice shooting stroke and can make jump shots but his main focus should be scoring on the block as well as improving his rebound rate as a sophomore.
- Zeke Montgomery, Fern Creek – Zeke is a player who came on my radar late in the summer. He has a lot of potential with a good frame to go with his length and athleticism. He is a tweener as a prospect right now and it’s hard to see if his future is on the wing or on the block. Right now Montgomery is a good prospect to track moving forward as he could become a really nice player over the next couple of years.
Other Post Players to Know:
Trace Flanary, Bowling Green – Trace isn’t flashy but he is very fundamental and makes winning plays.
Josh McGuire, Knott County Central – McGuire is a tough kid who can score around the rim. Room to improve defensively.
Hunter McNaughton, Webster County – Big bodied kid who could be one of the top rebounders in the state.
