Continue ReadingThe point guard group in the Junior class is not especially strong after several years where Kentucky had tremendous point guard depth in the state. Currently only one junior point has college offers but there are multiple others who could land college offers in the next two years. Let’s take a look at Kentucky’s best Junior point guards.
- Dayvion McKnight, Collins – The top point guard in the class has already earned college offers from Winthrop, Western Kentucky, Cleveland State and Kentucky State and is in the conversation for best player in the 2020 class statewide. The point guard does it all on the floor. As a sophomore he led Collins in rebounds and assists while being third on the team in scoring. He will be hard to top as the best point in the class.
- Amari Taylor, Tates Creek – Amari is more of a bully who knows how to use his strength and skill to get to the rim and finish through contact. The biggest hinderance to his game right now is that Taylor is not a great perimeter shooter but he is a gym rat who works hard on his game all year round. With his work ethic and ability, Amari is primed for a big Junior season after an injury limited him to only a handful of games last season.
- James Taylor, Saint Xavier – Taylor is a high IQ floor general who has grown up the last two seasons going through battles in the seventh region. James is another player who needs to keep improving as a perimeter shooter to reach his ceiling. Look for James to be one of the better Juniors in Louisville and could see a big jump in his scoring if he can improve his shooting percentages from last season.
- Dallas Rufus, Waggener – Dallas continues moving up the rankings after a strong AAU season. He was a much better scorer in AAU than what he was able to show in the high school season last year. Rufus should be a much more confident player in his Junior year and could surprise some people around Louisville with a big season. Dallas is a gym rat who is always working. Look for him to make a splash this season for a Waggener team that should compete in the 7th.
- Trey Minter, Butler – Another Louisville point guard on our list. Minter should see a big role for a Butler team that many think will win the 6th region this year. Trey is a good shooter who can also create for others. His strength is his outside shot but he has improved as a slasher. Minter is also a tough kid who will run through a wall to get a win. Look for Trey to be a breakout candidate this season in Louisville.
