Some are my personal favorites as others are players I would just like to take a closer look at but are players that definitely stand out as intriguing to me. Here is the first part of the few wings/big men that you may want to keep an eye out for as the season starts.
Joel Scott- Lewis-Palmer- Rank 7
With Joel Scott returning for his last year of high school in 4A it seems to be pretty much Lewis-Palmer at this point as the favorite going in and who will run the table. Joel is arguably the toughest cover in the state around the rim and he has the body for a big man and footwork and speed of a guard which makes him that much more difficult to defend. Once you add in the solid mid-range game as well as his ability to find the open man and not force shots it makes double-teaming him nearly impossible, he is deserving of the No. 7 overall in the class.
James Felton-Lincoln-Rank 15
James has a never-ending motor on both sides of the ball that he uses to wear opponents down over the course of a game. On the defensive side of the ball he is excellent in help side and doesn’t have a problem guarding the other team’s best player regardless of the position. On offense is where he is most underrated as he finishes well around the basket and has a decent amount of moves with his back to the basket. He also gets above the rim and dunks through the lane which shows off his athleticism.
Tyler Unger- Grandview-Rank 16
From 6thman last season to now becoming one of the main go to guys on the team, Tyler’s role in Grandview is repeating this season is huge. He will have to defend and score at a high level but most importantly he has to be more a vocal leader for the rest of the team. A breakout season from Tyler would not catch me by surprise he as has the tools to be a standout player in this class and exactly why he has moved all the way up to No. 16.
Dalton Knecht-Prairie View-Rank 18
Dalton had an overlooked season last year since he didn’t see that many touches but I was able to see first hand how hot he could get in such a small amount of time. Since he began playing with Colorado Anarchy in the summer his game has taken some huge strides. His Prairie View team may not get the respect they feel that they deserve but this year Dalton is here to put the state on alert of just have much they have grown since last year.
Logan Cecil-Thomas Jefferson-Rank19
Logan is the traditional big man as far as back to the basket moves and rebounding are concerned, but he is so much more than just that for the Spartans. He serves the role as leader on a young yet talented team that has so many weapons but just haven’t be able to get everyone on the same page. With this being the Logan’s last year he has got to want to go out on a winning note and it should be in the game plan to make sure that he has the ball. TJ underwhelmed last season but that was a bit expected, now with another year under their belt and the team’s core returning with a more complete team with Cecil as the big man leading the way there can be a change.
