Top 5 2018-2019 Must See Metro Atlanta Matchups
Atlana, GA – Every year here in the metro Atlanta area we seem to have some very exciting and killer matchups. Whether it is a region, rivalry, showcase, or tournament matchup, the metro Atlanta area is known for some top and “can’t forget” type games. This year before the season begins I have decided to rank the top 20 must see matchups this season in the metro Atlanta area, below you can check out what can arguably be the top 5 matchups/showcases this season.
1. Peachtree Corners Invitational (Sat. Jan. 26th)– This event is arguably the number one must see showcase in the metro Atlanta area this season. The Peachtree Corners Invitational is an annual event in the Atlanta area and this season it will once again be hosted at Norcross High School. This year’s PCI will give you four on what should be great matchups. Those matchups include Greater Atlanta Christian-Independence (NC), Buford-Ridgeview (SC), Wheeler-Gonzaga (DC), and Norcross-Gray Collegiate (SC). All of the out of state programs are one of the best high school programs out of their states. Will the Georgia schools be able to represent the peach state?
2. Georgia Elite 8 Tip Off Classic (Sat. Nov. 10th)– McEachern’s annual Georgia Elite 8 Tip Off Classic is now in it’s third season and will be even better once again this year. The schools that are expected to compete in this event this season were recently announced and those schools include McEachern, Heritage, Holy Spirit, Lincoln Academy, Westlake, St. Francis, Wheeler, Meadowcreek, and more. All those programs feature some of the best players nationally and in the state. Players like Sharife Cooper (McEachern), Anthony Edwards (Holy Spirit), Chase Hunter (Clemson commit/Westlake), Dwon Odom (Xavier commit St. Francis), Isaac Okoro (Auburn commit/McEachern), Ebenezer Dowuona (Heritage), and more. The matchups have yet to be officially announced but trust me, it is a must come event and you will not be disappointed.
3. Tournament of Champions Showcase (Sat. Dec. 15th)– The 1st Annual Tournament of Champions Showcase will tip off on Saturday December 15th and hosted at Wheeler High School. This showcase event will feature McEachern, Pebblebrook, Holy Spirit, Superior Collegiate (FL), Lincoln Academy, Meadowcreek, Wheeler, and more. There will be a bunch of next level players in this event. The matchups will be great as well as Lincoln Academy-Legacy Charter (SC), Holy Spirit-Meadowcreek, McEachern-Wheeler, and others are expected to face off in the first annual event.
4. Huntington Prep (WV) v. Lincoln Academy (Fri. Nov. 23rd)– This matchup will feature 2019 F Elias King going against his former school in Huntington Prep (WV) at the famous Holiday Hoopsgiving during Thanksgiving break. Elias attended Huntington Prep during his sophomore campaign but returned to Atlanta a year later. 2020 F Jaemyn Brakefield was on that same team Elias was on during that 2016-2017 season and is now one of the top prospects in the nation.
5. Legacy Charter (SC) v. Hunington Prep (WV) (Sat. Nov. 24th)– Another top Holiday Hoopsgiving matchup, and yes it includes powerhouse Hunington Prep out of West Virginia. This matchup will have a ton, and when I say a ton I literally mean a plethora of prospects college coaches and scouts will be on hand to see. I am not going to list every single prospect that is expected to be in this one but just know there will be plenty. Legacy Charter features one familiar name and that is Florida State commit 2020 PG Naseem Khalid, while Hunington also holds a familiar name in 2020 F Jaemyn Brakefield.
