The Second Annual Elite 8 Fall Preview at Monterey Trail H.S Part I
The Second Annual Elite 8 Fall Preview was held September 29th at Monterey Trail HS in Elk Grove CA. This event offered and early and insightful look at some of the top teams and players from the Sacramento and San Joaquin Sections of Nor-Cal that will be competing in this 2018-19 season. The name of the schools were changed because of high school rules. Here is my take on the following prospects who I thought competed well at this event.
1Team 1Dream (Modesto Christian). I didn’t see anything to change my thoughts about this team playing late into the season. This team has several potential next level players, starting with Dathan Satchell 6’3 senior guard who sets his feet fast and has a quick release on his shot, strong handles and attacks at will, Earvin Knox a 6’0 senior point guard whose as steady as they come, strong handles, nice pull, and a good passer, he too attacks the rim, and Michael Pearson 5’10 Pg, one of the top 2020 Point guards in Nor-Cal.
The Pacers Basketball Academy (Grant) Sacramento CA. This team arguably has the most athletic starting five in Nor-Cal. Starting with A.J McGee 6’1, 2020 Pg whom I thought was the MOP of this event. Steven Richardson 6’5 2019. Hard to put a position on him because he can play the 1, 2 or the 3. He’s an athlete with the tools in the box. David Jones 6’6 F, 2019. An athlete with bounce, a solid rebounder, he gets up and down the floor pretty fast and he likes to dunk. Dejuan Pruitt 6’7 F, 2019. Dejuans very active on the boards, he runs the floor, has a mid range game and can guard the other teams big. Corey Yeager 6’1 Guard 2021. He’s an up and coming player fits in well with this group.
Big Dawgs (Sheldon). This team is accustomed to playing late into the season. At this event the Big Dawgs had potential DI players coming off the bench. They go deep. I have no idea who will start for this team. Here are the players who played well at this event. Starting with the big fella. 6’10 Josh Morgan F/C 2019, He’s a rim protector, blocks and alters shots in the paint. He runs the floor very well a for a player his size, his offensive skill set will improve as the season progresses. Kaito Williams 6’3 Guard 2019, Very dangerous when he’s knocking in 3 Pt shots, it opens everything up for his game. Marquis Hargrove 6’5 wing 2020, looks like he’s in line for a break out season with his play from this event solid floor game overall this weekend.
