The Race for Mr. Basketball: Terrence Hargrove
In this series we take a look at the potential candidates for Mr. Basketball in the state of Illinois for this upcoming season. Here we profile East St. Louis forward Terrence Hargrove.
Profile:
Hargrove is an ultra-versatile combo forward from East St. Louis. He broke out as a sophomore and ever since has been one of the better prospects in the metro east. Excels when he is playing with a high-motor. He is a beast getting on the offensive glass for put backs and changing the game with his athleticism. Big time rebounder and shot blocker at the high school level. The top 10 prospect is a St. Louis University commit.
Odds to Win:
40/1
Why He Can Win:
Outside of Belleville West, East St. Louis has the most talent of any team in the metro east and that is led by Hargrove. He plays an exciting style of basketball with his high flying dunks and explosive shot blocking. Should post at minimum a solid 18/8/2 slash line this year on a team that has hopes of making a trip to Peoria in March.
Obstacles to Win:
He is in the shadow of favorite Liddell right in his back yard. His travel teammate will get all the preseason hype and media attention right from the jump. It will be up to Hargrove to try to take some of that back. East St. Louis as a team will have to live up to preseason expectations of their own by racking up wins in key conference games, showcases, and tournaments.
