The Race for Mr. Basketball: Perry Cowan
In this series we take a look at the potential candidates for Mr. Basketball in the state of Illinois for this upcoming season. Here we profile DePaul Prep shooting guard Perry Cowan.
Profile:
Cowan has consistently been one of the top prospects in this class since the 2019 group entered high school. The Brown commit is a silky smooth scorer from the mid-range area. Last season he was one of the best players in the Chicago Catholic League and is expected to be so again this season.
Odds to Win:
40/1
Why He Can Win:
Cowan will be the clear star on a team that should content for a Chicago Catholic League championship. He is an established star in that conference that has produced from the first game he played for DePaul Prep. If he can elevate DePaul Prep to not just be one of the best teams in the Catholic League, but the entire Chicagoland area he could get in the conversation.
Obstacles to Win:
The Catholic League has traditionally been looked at as the weaker conference between it and the Chicago Public League. Cowan will have to show in the opportunities he has against the best CCL teams and the few opportunities he has against CPL teams he is among the best high school players in the state.
