Team Preview: South Grand Prairie
Team Preview: South Grand Prairie Warriors
South Grand Prairie had a pretty good season last year. They won a couple of playoff games before losing to Denton Guyer. The Warriors lost their best player from last year in three-star point guard Bryce Cook who transferred to Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas for his senior year. The Warriors however return two starters from last year’s playoff team in 2019 top 200 prospect Karlyn Kenner, 2020 top 30 prospect Christian Turner and 2021 big man Micheal Ungu Nganeu. All will have pivotal roles this year and will not lack toughness because it is valued by Head Coach Brandon Bennett on both ends of the floor. The Warriors will be in one of the toughest districts in 6A and will have to work together as a unit to have a chance on a district title.
Top Players
Karlyn Kenner / 6’2” / SG / 2019
Karlyn has a little bit of everything in his game. He has good mid range game and is a decent playmaker. Kenner plays well with or without the ball and rebounds well for his size. Karlyn takes pride in his defense. He accepts the challenge of trying to lock up whoever he is guarding.
Christian Turner / 6’6” / PF / 2020
Christian is a long forward with a nice stroke. He knocks down the spot-up mid range and trey ball consistently when open. Turner does not have a lot of perimeter skill, but he has decent footwork to go along with his good feel for the game and high basketball I.Q. Christian is a decent athlete for his size and will battle for rebounds. He has to gain more toughness and continue to improve his perimeter game to become the prospect that he has the potential to be.
