Region 5-AAAAA Players to Watch
Region 5-AAAAA will have no shortage of talent this coming season. Lets take a look at this talented region with just 5 team in the Midlands right here on your source for high school basketball coverage in the Palmetto State.
Tre Jackson and Calvin “CJ” Felder will headline Region 5-AAAAA this coming season. Jackson and Felder our ranked 4th and 6th in the latest Prep Hoops 2019 Palmetto State Rankings. Jackson will play at Iowa State University while Felder is headed off to Boston College.
Jackson will lead the Bengals this season for Head Coach Zeke Washington. Jackson a scoring guard averaged 19.1 ppg, 3.7 assists and 3.2 steals last season. Jackson had a big summer on the Grassroots Circuit with Team South Carolina.
Felder picked the Golden Eagles over Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Murray State and LSU. Felder averaged 8.7 ppg and 7.9 rebounds last season for the Gamecocks. The Gamecocks moved over to the Midlands after playing in the West Florence, Conway, Socastee, South Florence and Carolina Forest Region last few years.
Omar Croskey (2019) – Sumter HS
Croskey is taken a official visit to Salem University (WV) (NCAA D2). Croskey a left-handed wing player ran with Upward Stars-Columbia this summer on the Grassroots Circuit. Croskey has really good length and range on his shot.
Jalen Johnson (2019) – Sumter HS
Johnson recently visited Francis Marion University (SC) (NCAA D2). Johnson 6’4 has great strength and has really come on strong in the past year. Look for Johnson to be a key attribute with Croskey to help the Gamecocks stay on top of the region.
Kwaleek Jones (2019) – Sumter HS
Jones should fit in nicely over here with the Gamecocks. Jones 6’4 played last season at nearby Crestwood HS. Jones will need to entertain junior college after this season according to Gamecocks Head Coach Shawn Jones.
Trevez Caldwell (2019) – Irmo HS
Caldwell is a pass first point guard who can get the ball to his teammates. Caldwell penetrates-kicks and does have a nice little mid-range game.
Bostun Rivers (2019) – Irmo HS
Rivers is a great glue guy on the floor for legendary Head Coach Tim Whipple. Rivers works for position in the paint and plays with a blue-collar mentality.
Zarrius Salmond (2019) – Lugoff-Elgin HS
Salmond is a undersized player who does his best work around the cup. Salmond brings great effort and looks to rebound the ball on both ends of the floor.
Joshua Felder (2019) – Spring Valley HS
Felder was a pleasant surprise to us here at Prep Hoops when we saw him a few weeks back at the SCBCA Elite Camp. Felder has great length and really plays the passing lanes well.
Kameryn Manuel (2019) – Blythewood HS
Manuel a undersized post player isn’t afraid to carve out space in the paint. Manuel should see quality minutes this season with the graduation of Robert Braswell and others.
Travis Thompson (2019) – Blythewood HS
Thompson 6’4 a combo forward works hard in the paint for the Bengals. Thompson has the ability to post up and draw contact when needed.
Julian Phillips (2022) – Blythewood HS
First saw Phillips this summer at Coker College Team Camp and WOW was the response. Phillips will be the top player in the 2022 Class and expect him and Williams to battle it out for the years to come here in Region 5-AAAAA. Phillips stalks the baseline and can score the ball at all 3-levels on the floor.
Dylan Williams (2022) – Irmo HS
Williams a point guard just swarms the ball with his full out work ethic. Williams saw great minutes last season for the Yellow Jackets as 8th grader.
