Recruiting Report: Sekou Gassama (2021)
Desmet 2021 power forward Sekou Gassama will be one of the best posts in the St. Louis area over the next few years. Big and physical 6’9” power forward that plays with a lot of strength inside. High level rebounder that snatches them with two hands in traffic. That is what he does best at this stage. Also a nice post defender. Has some mobility too on the defensive end. Offensively has some skill potential on the block showing solid footwork. One of top prospects at event at the Pangos All-Midwest Frosh/Soph Camp this call in Chicago.
How did he feel the summer went playing with Gateway Basketball on the Adidas circuit?
“My summer was good. I worked hard playing with Gateway. It was a good summer. The first thing that I feel I improved on was athleticism. Before I was too skinny and I didn’t have so much physical play. That made it easier to play the game.”
Gassama broke down his skill set.
“I would describe my game to people that I try to finish strong and play hard. Play strong on defense. Finish my layups.”
What is he looking forward to about this season at Desmet?
“I have never played with Desmet before. I came here from Mali. I really want to take the state with my team.”
Although it is super early he has already landed a pair of college scholarships.
“LSU and Indiana State have offered.”
What does he like about the LSU Tigers?
“LSU is good. Shaquille O’Neal is from there. He is one of the best players in history. I would really like to play like him or Ben Simmons. I like the LSU program.”
Several other Midwest high-majors are keeping tabs on him.
“Purdue, Mizzou, and Iowa are also interested.”
