Recruiting Report: Jack Thompson (2019)
St. Thomas Academy’s Jack Thompson is one of the best 2-3 available PGs in the state of Minnesota and today he talked with NHR about schools and his senior year at STA.
“I think I’m most excited to try and make it back to state for the third straight year as that would be a great accomplishment for our program,” Thompson said. “I’m also looking forward to being more of a leader on our team and carrying a little bit bigger load than I’ve had to in years prior.
“As well as playing with the other seniors on the team for the last time because they are some of my closest friends.”
Thompson shot 49 percent from the guard spot last year (35.5 percent at the arc) for his 12-13 a game plus dished out four assists, four boards, and two steals a game. The Cadets had a more balanced line-up but with a lot of players graduating Jack will continue his role plus need to score more.
“This year I want to improve on my finishing and consistency with the ball,” Jack said.
Thompson knows the feeling of making the state tournament and it’s something he remembers well.
“The one moment that stands out to me in my career is right when the buzzer sounded against Richfield, when we punched our ticket to state for the first time in 9 years during my sophomore season,” Jack said.
Thompson has recently grabbed an offer from Southwest Minnesota State and they are one of the schools that he is looking closely at along with a few others.
“I’m visiting St. John’s this weekend and I’ve recently visited Southwest Minnesota State and St. Thomas which both went very well,” Jack said.
“Those three schools are showing the most interest and then as of late Concordia St. Paul and Newman University in Wichita Kansas have both reached out to me as well.”
Wherever he lands that school is going to get a winner who took his team to state multiple times plus had a great summer with the Minnesota Comets.
