Recruiting Report: Brandon Weston (2021)
Lake Forest Academy shooting guard Brandon Weston is one of the best prospects in the state of Illinois in the 2021 class. His athleticism is off the charts with his quick twitched style of play. Makes plays in transition playing above the rim for big slams. Just a monster scorer that can get buckets from all three levels. Explosive first step and a clean looking jumper from the perimeter. Also impressed with how well he passes the rock. He has always been a scorer, but his drive and kick ability along with his willingness to get others involved is impressive.
Weston is from the east coast originally and played with the NY Rens 15U in the Nike EYBL over the summer.
“It was a real good experience. Playing with the Rens we went really far. Made it to the championship game at Peach Jam. Unfortunately we lost in the championship. That was a good group. Those guys will always be my brothers. I feel like it was a really good experience.”
How have open gyms gone with Lake Forest?
“It has been going really good. Loyola and Miami (OH) along with Creighton have come through. Open gyms have been going pretty good.”
What areas of his game has he seen the biggest growth?
“Over the summer I have been really focusing on my shot and my handle. I feel like I am more comfortable with my pull up jump shot and perimeter shooting. Getting to the basket in a move instead of just forcing it in.”
Weston discussed the strengths of his game as a prospect.
“I can finish with right or left. I can shoot the mid-range. I love playing defense and can rebound. I am talkative and aggressive.”
Still early in the recruiting process, but we expect it to really pick up!
“I got a letter from Louisville, NC State, and Iowa State. I still have the UMass offer, but am waiting for this year for the offers to come in.”
Weston is the #2 overall prospect in the 2021 PHI Rankings and projects as a high-major prospect.
