Recruiting Notebook
PrepHoopsIllinois takes a look around the state over the last week to see what is going on! Check out our latest Recruiting Notebook!
Bryce Bultman to McKendree
One of the most underrated prospects in the 2019 class came off the board recently. Nashville 6’5” point guard Bryce Bultman committed to McKendree. The D2 program has a new head coach and they are recruiting aggressively in the state of Illinois particularly in their back yard of southern Illinois. They got a steal in Bultman with his way above average size for position along with his elite playmaking skills at the point guard spot. Proved over and over with the Illinois Bears he was a low-major caliber player.
Former Morgan Park Wing Commits to In-State D1
Kenyon Duling was the ultimate glue guy last season for Morgan Park in their repeat as state champs. Tough and physical wing that could shoot it as well as defend multiple positions. After a coaching change at Tennessee State where he initially committed Duling didn’t find a fit at the D1 level so he decided to go the JUCO route for a year at Cowley College. Before officially playing his first game he has already found a new home as he will be coming back to Illinois playing for SIU-Edwardsville next season. Duling will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Wolves Trio Lands Loyola Offers
A week ago we talked about the Illinois Wolves trio of Chris Hodges (Schaumburg), Isaiah Barnes (OPRF), and Bryce Hopkins (Fenwick) all landing Miami (OH) offers. This week they took a shorter trek to Loyola where they all secured offers from the Final Four team out of the Missouri Valley conference. The top 10 trio in the 2021 class are going to be heavily pursued. Bryce Hopkins also landed an offer from Nebraska.
Whitaker Scores Illinois State Scholarship
Illinois State has been heavily tracking Romeoville 2020 shooting guard Destin Whitaker for quite a while. Over the weekend they took the next step. Whitaker was on campus visiting the Redbirds and the MVC program extended an offer to him. “I liked the coaching staff. THe school spirit was a big one and their campus overall was very nice.”
Small College Visits
Most of the D1 official visits are done for the fall. There are still a few left, but the majority are complete. A lot of small college prospects were on the road over the last week. Illinois College hosted three quality prospects in Jaxson Dian (Lemont), Drew Wiemers (Moline), and Adam Taylor (Providence Catholic). Elmhurst has made Downers Grove South shooting guard Wes Hooker a priority. They had him on campus and reports are it went well. Carthage hosted intriguing small college big man Noah May. Roosevelt had combo forward Andrew Veon on campus.
Loyola 2020 Twins Score Presbyterian Offers
Two of the prospects we are really looking forward to seeing their development this season are Loyola 6’8” twins Jordan and Bennett Kwiecinski. They are skilled face up fours that can handle, shoot, and have upside. The duo both recently scored scholarship offers from Presbyterian.
Conway Continues to Rack Up Offers
The offers continue to come for Naperville Central 2020 post Chris Conway. The latest is from Oakland. Conway has been one of the most popular junior prospects on the recruiting trail now having a handful of offers from mid-major programs along with DePaul. Athletic post that has the potential to be a rim protector along with offensive upside.
Terrence Shannon Sets Date
We are nearing a conclusion to the recruitment of Lincoln Park graduate and current IMG (FL) wing Terrence Shannon. The top 100 prospect nationally who blew up this spring with the Mac Irvin Fire has set his announcement date for November 1. Shannon has taken official visits to DePaul, Florida State, Texas Tech, Illinois, and most recently Georgetown. He is an explosive lefty small forward that excels in transition.
