Prospect Update: Japannah Kellogg (2019)
Yet another prospect from Iowa’s Class of 2019 has committed to a Division I program.
Earlier today, Ames’ 6’7 wing Japannah Kellogg announced his commitment to the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. He’s the 12th prospect from Iowa’s 2019 class to commit to a D1 program.
Kellogg chose Green Bay over offers from NJIT and Cal Poly. He took his official visit to Green Bay this past weekend.
“Going there, I got to know the coaches and the players a little better. And they were all really cool and I liked seeing how the coaches interact with the players and how the players interact with each other,” said Kellogg, Iowa’s 13th-ranked 2019.
“I got to be a little more knowledgeable about the school, and it made me feel like home, and I could see myself being there for the next four years.”
A lengthy and versatile wing, Kellogg had the opportunity to play with D1 Minnesota 17U this past spring and summer, one of the nation’s best grassroots teams. It was an opportunity that helped spawn his wide-scope of Division I offers.
“All of the guys on my team were getting recruited by D1 schools, and it was a wide-range of schools looking at us, so we had a lot of eyes watching us, so it was really helpful playing with them in terms of recruiting,” said Kellogg.
“It was a great experience with them. They were all really good players, and I had to show what I could do with the playing time that I had. It was a lot of fun, the pace was different to what I was used to, and I think it gave me a good idea of what to expect college-wise.”
Kellogg will be the main man this winter for a young but talented Ames squad before heading north to play with the Phoenix in the fall of 2020.
It’s his length and versatility that he says will allow him to fit right in when he begins with Green Bay.
“I think I’ll fit in pretty well, they mostly play position-less basketball, so I think I can blend right in. With my length I think I’ll be able to help them out a lot,” said Kellogg. “And they like to run up and down, so I think I can help them out with that.”
