Prospect Spotlight: Tristan Furgeson (2019)
There will be very high hopes at Bishop Garrigan this winter, and with a team chock-full of talent, the Bears have a legit shot at bringing home a state title.
A 6-foot 5 guard, Tristan Furgeson, is a guy who played minimally last season, but should have a larger role with one of the state’s best Class 1A teams this season.
A tall, rangy and ever-improving prospect, Ferguson certainly has the look of a college player, and his ability to shoot it and pass it are strengths.
“I’m pretty decent at shooting the ball, whether that’s mid-range or the 3-point. I think I’m a good passer and defensive player too. I try and pass the ball around and share it with my teammates as much as I can,” said Furgeson.
This past spring and summer, he was staying busy while playing with both AFES 17U and his Bishop Garrigan squad in summer leagues.
“I played with Garrigan in mostly all the tournaments we went to. I went to Fort Dodge about three times a week and worked out with AFES,” said Furgeson.
“I mostly worked at getting better at passing and shooting, and playing better with my teammates.”
NAIA program Wofford was able to catch wind of the tall and lean guard this past offseason, and thought enough of Ferguson to extend a scholarship offer.
“Currently just Waldorf is talking to me, and I’m really considering going there,” said Furgeson.
But for now, he’s got his senior ahead with one of the state’s most talented teams. A squad that graduated no seniors from a 19-win team last season.
“I don’t really know what my exact role will be, I’m just trying to help the team out as best I can,” said Furgeson. “I just want to have fun this season, and whatever happens, happens.”
