Prospect Update: Jadin Johnson (2021)
A top prospect in Iowa’s Class of 2021, Council Bluffs Lincoln guard Jadin Johnson is a guy with a very high ceiling.
As a freshman, the 6-foot-3 guard got some nice run with the Lynx, and he’ll certainly be an impact player this season. And he’s been working this offseason to continue and establish himself as one of Iowa’s best young prospects.
“I’m improving on my shot more day-by-day, and then I’m getting my ball-handling tighter and making myself more of a defensive player each possession,” said Johnson.
“I need to continue to improve on playing both sides of the ball and not taking any plays off.”
This past spring and summer, Johnson excelled with one of the state’s most talented grassroots teams, Martin Brothers 15U. It was leadership that he says was his most prominent role with the team.
“My role was to be a leader and help the team become better and help guys to not get so down on themselves if they missed a shot. And help us to hustle back on defense and things like that,” said Johnson.
Now, his sophomore season is just a month away. As a freshman he averaged 6.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
“I’m going to definitely have to lead the team this season,” said Johnson. “Some personal goals are to just accomplish getting a double-double every game and at least getting five steals each game. And to just stay in the gym.”
Recruitment is something that could begin to come to a boil by this time next season for the young prospect. There’s already a lengthy list of schools that have inquired about him.
That list looks like this: Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Wake Forest, Colorado State, Creighton, UNLV, Rice, UNI, SDSU, Drake. Omaha, Wright State and Green Bay.
He’s taken unofficial visits to Iowa, Drake and Omaha. He’s planning visits to Wisconsin, UNI and SDSU.
“I’m just trying to stay humble,” said Johnson.
