This year (2021) guard Cody Hansen from Marsh Valley High School is looking to establish himself as one of the stand out guards in Idaho. He is a 6’1″ 140 lb guard with a good outside shot and can also create his own shots when he needs to. “I’m pretty long and lengthy so I use that with a quick first step, getting by my defender and using my length to finish around the rim.” This past year he was a starter for the freshman team where he averaged 20 pts a game. His team finished the year 19-2. This year he is hoping to get some minutes on the varsity.
To help prepare for this upcoming season Hansen decided to not play football so he could really try to focus on the upcoming basketball season. This fall he traveled down to Utah on Thursdays to play in a league in Salt Lake City. “It’s really helped me progress as a player and help me see what I need to work on to reach the next level.”
Some areas of his game Hansen is trying to improve on is his perimeter defense and scoring in the post. “I want to be trusted by coach to go out there and guard some of the best scorers in the game. I also am trying to develop a post game and get stronger by lifting weights and working out so I can be used as a 4 to stretch the floor. I’ve been traveling down to Utah to train with Skyler Halford, a former BYU player, and trying to get better.”
This past weekend Hansen attended the Mountain Hoops Showcase at Salt Lake Community College. “I’m trying to get my name out there and get some exposure. The competition there was crazy and it was a really good experience for me, it helped me realize what I need to work on to make it to the next level, and I’m hoping to get in the gym and work on some things to better myself as a player. It was really fun going out there with some of the best players around and competing.”
We look forward to seeing what Hansen can do this upcoming season.
