Prospect Spotlight: Ameer Muhammad (2019 David Douglas HS)
Last month, one of the more underrated performers at the PrepHoops Top 250 Expo was Ameer Muhammad. The tough 6-foot, 170-pound senior from David Douglas was impressive as a power guard, as he took the ball strong to the basket past defenders and finishing near the rim. Muhammad is hoping for a big senior season that will lead to some opportunities at the college level.
Muhammad played on a team with Jefferson’s Keylin Vance and West Linn’s Oreon Courtney, both of whom made the unofficial all-tournament team. But Muhammad also impressed with his strengths. “Attacking the rim, being aggressive, and exploiting the defense,” Muhammad noted. “I’ve just been trying to work on my defense, stopping my defender.”
Muhammad played some AAU basketball this summer with an adidas team and felt he fared pretty well. He remains under the radar when it comes to college recruitment though, but he’s looking forward to grabbing some attention this season. “I’m just looking forward to talking to some coaches,” Muhammad said. “I’m looking for a good team – anyone that will offer me anything, I’m grateful.
For Muhammad, it’s really about the team – and for David Douglas, it’s making up for what he missed his junior season. “Playoffs of course,” he said. “We didn’t go last year as we lost in the play-in game, so I’m looking to get there. I just want to help my team get better every day and be a leader.”
Muhammad currently ranks as the #43 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
