PREVIEWING KC: Top dunkers
With basketball practice a month away, Prep Hoops takes a look at several players to watch this upcoming season, starting with some of the Kansas City area’s premier shooters in the rising senior class.
Kamto Eze, 6’7, F, 2019, Grandview (Team Rush)
Eze is a bouncy rim protector who played a key role on Grandview’s state championship team last season. He is capable of blocking shots, throwing down dunks around the basket and runs the floor like a deer.
Darrius Hughes, 6’5, F, 2019, Rockhurst (pictured)
Hughes is a strong, athletic forward with a versatile skill set, capable of playing some face-up ball on the perimeter, or scoring in the post. He is capable of throwing down thunderous dunks around the basket can absorb contact and isn’t fazed. At last report he held offers from Air Force, UMKC, Abilene Christian, Nebraska-Omaha, and others.
Dalen Ridgnal, 6’5, F, 2019, Rockhurst (KC Spurs)
Ridgnal has gotten a lot of press from Prep Hoops in recent years for his work during the grassroots season as he brings a lunch pail mentality to the court and a willingness to do the little things at a high level. He is a plus athlete who is capable of rising up and throwing down dunks around the basket in emphatic fashion.
Roman Wilson, 6’10, PF/C, 2019, Park Hill (MoKan Elite)
Wilson missed much of last season and the ensuing AAU circuit, but he has a world of pontetial and upside. Word is he is back at Park Hill and is gearing up for his senior season on the hardwood. If so, he’s a game changing big man who plays above the rim at both ends of the floor as well as any player in the state.
Jermaine Yarbrough, 6’6, PF, 2019, Grandview (KC Magic)
Yarborough is a powerful athlete, capable of dominating a game around the basket at both ends of the floor and has thrown down numerous eye opening slams this spring.
