PREVIEWING KC: Top 2020 Guards
PREVIEWING KC: Top 2020 Guards
With basketball practice a month away, Prep Hoops takes a look at several players to watch this upcoming season, starting with some of the Kansas City area’s top guards in the class of 2020.
Stefan Black II, 6’1, G, 2020, Blue Springs
Also a football standout, Blue Springs’ 2020 guard Stefan Black is a tough, physical guard who is capable of creating plays off the dribble, whether it’s getting all the way to the basket or finding open teammates. He is a quick guard with a long, rangy frame who uses his size well, especially at the defensive end.
Dezmond McKinney, 6’0, G, Raytown South (MoKan Select)
McKinney is an athletic guard who loves to push the pace in transition and attack the basket. He does a good job creating plays off the bounce and plays a down hill style, able to beat most defenders to the basket and finish tough chance. He has an emerging outside shot and can create jumpers off the dribble.
Ben Palacios, 6’4, G, St. Michael (Marcus Denmon)
Palacios is an athletic and skilled guard with a long, rangy frame and the ability to put the ball in the basket from all over the court. He can create off the bounce, gets to the basket well and has the ability to knock down shots from behind the 3-point arc.
D’Anthony Pennington, 6’2, G, 2020, North Kansas City (NDaGym)
Pennington got some varsity run last season on a deep and talented North Kansas City team and then took off in the spring and summer running with NDaGym. He is slight of build, but don’t let that fool you. He is a creative scorer who can get his own shot off the bounce, can shoot from the 3-point arc and has a floater that he uses well in the lane.
