PREVIEW KC: Youngsters names to know (forwards)
As part of its 2018-19 preview series, Prep Hoops Missouri takes a look at some of the state’s top players in a variety of positions in the rising sophomore class.
Below are several forwards in Missouri’s 2021 class you should know.
Jaylon McDaniel, 6’7, F, 2021, Blue Springs South (MoKan Elite)
One of the Kansas City area’s premier young prospects, McDaniel brings terrific length at 6’7 and a lot of bounce. He is capable of throwing down emphatic dunks at the offensive end of the court, blocking shots and rebounding at the defensive end and runs the floor better than most guards. He has a developing skill set and shooting range that extends out to the 3-point arc. McDaniel is coming off a strong summer with MoKan Elite.
Taj Manning, 6’6, F, 2022, Grandview
Manning impressed this past summer for Grandview during June team camp as he showed right away he will be a force at the high school level. Manning is a skilled forward who can post up and score at the top of the paint, is capable of playing above the rim and brings quickness and athleticism. He put together a big offseason running with KC based Drive5 2022 squad.
Elijah Corner, 6’3, F, 2021, Ruskin
A very smooth combo forward with good athleticism and an overall skill set. He scored on nice moves in the lane, an effective jump hook and pull up jumpers off the dribble. He has a quick second jump around the basket which resulted in several put back buckets. On top of that, he showcased some 3-point shooting ability.
Keyren Spiller, 6’3, F, 2021, KC Center
A versatile big bodied combo forward who is a tough matchup because he has the physical strength to play bully ball and the finesse and agility to make plays on the move. He handles the ball well and has the ability to get buckets in the lane with his soft shooting touch. He was an All-Conference performer as a freshman at Center.
