PREVIEW: Kansas’ top senior dunkers
As part of its 2018-19 preview series, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the state’s top dunkers in the rising senior class.
Trenton Austin, 6’5, F, 2019, Pittsburg
Also a football standout, Austin is an above-the-rim type athlete capable of throwing down electric and powerful dunks. He is a good rebounder, post defender and can attack the basket off the bounce as well.
Noah Butler, 6’5, F/G, 2019, Free State
A strong and physical inside-outside forward, Butler has improved his outside shot with a lot of hard work. He remains a tough match-up with the ability to drive to the bucket and finish in traffic and can impress with powerful slams.
Joshua Earley, 6’7, PF, 2019, Bishop MIege
Earley is a strong, powerful interior player who can dominate around the basket with monster slams, put backs and general garbage buckets in the paint. At 6’7, Earley plays bigger than his listed height due to his athleticism and size. He is quick off the floor, and combines strength and power with terrific hands. He has an emerging post-up game, showed this summer that he can shoot from the outside a little, but can also face up and score as well.
Caleb Grill, 6’2, G, 2019, Maize, NLHA
There might not be a better all-around guard in the state in the 2019 class than Grill, who committed to South Dakota State on Aug. 1, choosing the school over numerous other Division I offers. He has an all-around game, a scorers mentality, elite athleticism and is a knock down perimeter shooter. Grill is capable of throwing down impressive slams, loves to use his left hand and can catch opponents opff guard when they’re least expecting it.
Jarrett Hensley, 6’7, F, 2019, Leavenworth, MoKan
An athletic forward, Hensley can play above the rim at both ends of the floor, capable of throwing down dunks, blocking shots, or stepping out to the perimeter. He can handle the ball, attack the basket off the bounce and has a smooth 3-point shot. He put together a strong offseason running with MoKan Elite on the Nike EYBL circuit and is poised for a big senior season at Leavenworth.
Jaden Okon, 6’4, G, 2019, Wichita Heights, NLHA
Okon has drawn an offer from Division II Washburn after a strong offseason with Wichita based NLHA. He is an elite athlete capable of throwing down dunk after dunk, but can also handle the ball, attack the basket and has an emerging perimeter jumper.
