PREVIEW: Kansas’ top 2021 point guards
As part of its 2018-19 preview series, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the state’s top players in a variety of positions in the rising sophomore class.
Below are some of the state’s top point guard prospects in the 2021 class.
Luke Adams, 6’0, PG, 2021, Blue Valley North (Mokan)
Adams is a crafty guard who can shoot from deep and score from all three levels. He was a key scorer last year for a Blue Valley North team that was a defensive-first squad and Adams provided some much needed offensive punch. Adams has a good feel for handling the point guard duties, can handle the ball and is capable of creating his own offense off the bounce.
Max Alexander, 5’11, PG, 2021, McPherson (Pray N Play)
One of the state’s premier young guards, Alexander is coming off a terrific summer with Kansas Pray N Play as he competed up an age group with a talented 16U team. He is a terrific ball handler, point guard and is capable of knocking down outside shots or getting to the basket. Alexander is also a terrific defender who often surprises opponents with his toughness at that end of the floor.
Jackie Johnson, 5’11, PG, 2021, Wichita Southeast
Johnson is one of the state’s most talented young players who can handle it, shoot it and create for himself or his team. He is now at Wichita Southeast after playing last season at Wichita North and poised for a big sophomore season. He is exceptionally quick with the ball, has deep 3-point range. Is difficult for defenders to contain on the perimeter and has good court vision.
Lonell Lane, 6’0, PG, 2021, Harmon (MoKan Elite)
Lane is coming off a strong offseason running with MoKan Elite’s 15U team. He is a terrific athlete with a big frame who plays much bigger than his listed 6’0 height as he combines good size and strength with terrific athleticism. He is at his best in attack mode where teams struggle to keep him out of the paint and is a creative finisher in traffic.
Ty Sides, 5’10, PG, 2021, Phillipsburg
Sides is a tough guard who can play either guard spot and is capable of leading a team at the point guard position, can handle the ball with ease and gets into the lane and is a terrific playmaker. He is a terrific 3-point shooter and has a quick release and a smooth outside shooting stroke.
