PREVIEW: Biggest Stock Risers (2019)
As part of its 2018-19 preview series, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the state’s top players in a variety of positions in the senior class.
Below are several guards who have raised their profile in the 2019 class.
Ty Cooper, 5’11, G, 2019, Wamego
With Wamego suffering key losses to graduation, including point guard Thomas Dillon, the 2018-19 season will be Cooper’s time to shine. Also a standout football player, Cooper is a solid all-around guard who played off the ball a year ago but is capable of handling point guard duties, can get to the basket and can score from the perimeter as well.
Dillon Byrne, 6’2, G, 2019, Silver Lake, SSA Elite White
Bynne is a talented athlete who comes up big around the basket on hustle plays and behind the 3-point line. A terrific passer with good court awareness, Byrne looks to get others involved including standout guard Mason Griffin, among others. He’s an all-around player who can rebound, defend and hit timely baskets when the clock is running down.
Mason Colangelo, 6’3, G, 2019, Aquinas (Kan.)
Blessed with good size and a long, rangy frame, Aquinas 2019 Mason Colangelo features good size at 6’3 and is a long guard who brings good size and a lot of energy to the floor. He’s a solid rebounder and physical defender who works hard at both ends of the floor.
Mike Sauer, 6’2, G, 2019, Leavenworth, KC Spurs
Sauer is a crafty, all-around player who is capable of putting points on the board, making plays and getting to the basket off the bounce. He is coming off a strong summer with the KC Spurs and his play this season at Leavenworth will be key to their success.
Trey White, 6’1, PG/SG, 2019, Baxter Springs
A player with a scorer’s mentality, White can handle the ball, create offense off the dribble and is capable of scoring off the dribble and has a quick shooting release from behind the 3-point arc. He averaged nearly 25 points per game last season as a junior and appears poised to add to those totals this season.
