Preseason All Conference: Western Iowa
Preseason Player of the Year: Jon Schwarte, Treynor — 2020
As a sophomore with Treynor, Schwarte was a dominant inside force that helped lead the Cardinals to a state title game last season. Plenty of guys graduated from that team, but Schwarte is a returning starter who will not only see his offensive numbers balloon this season, but will remain one of the more dominant defensive forces in the state.
First Team
Jon Schwarte, Treynor — 2019
8.9 points, 3.0 blocks, 7.6 rebounds
The points and rebounds came as a starter on a Class 2A state runner-up last season, but it’s the blocks that make this this 6’8 center a true gem.
Jesup Lake, Logan-Magnolia — 2019
13.9 points, 2.0 assists, 1.3 steals, 7.7 rebounds
He led the team in rebounds last season, and he’s the leading returning scorer from a 16-win team. The 6-foot-3 forward will certainly be a candidate to average a double-double this season.
Tate Killeen, Audubon — 2019
15.6 points, 3.8 assists, 2.1 steals, 6.9 rebounds
A classic do-it-all player, Killeen can play a multitude of positions and is a guy that simply gets it done. He’s a triple-double threat each night out.
Alex Lingle, IKM-Manning — 2019
14.1 points, 5.5 rebounds
The Woilves are always one of the top teams in the conference, and this season it will be Lingle’s team to lead. The 6-foot-2 forward is an efficient scorer who could be up around 20 points per game this season.
Jack Stogdill, Treynor — 2020
8.8 points, 4.2 assists, 1.6 steals, 4.1 rebounds
Another guy who, like Schwarte, is a returning starter for a Treynor squad that advanced to the Class 2A title game last season. Look for Stogdill to be among the best two-way players in the conference this season.
