Preseason All-Conference: River Valley North
Player of the Year: 2020 Cameron Soenksen, Camanche
You could make a strong argument for any of the players on the first team as a Player of the Year pick, but we expect Camanche to win this division, and Soenksen is the Indians’ best player. Expect the junior guard to put up some big numbers en route to an awful lot of wins this winter.
First Team
2020 Cameron Soenksen, Camanche (16.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 steals)
A hyper athletic guard who plays above the rim, Soenksen has a green light for the Indians, who play one of the most up-tempo systems in the state. As a result, look for some eye-popping numbers from Soenksen this year, as Camanche cements themselves among the best teams in Class 2A.
2019 Haris Hoffman, Cascade (12.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 54.3 FG%, 48.9 3P%)
The Most Outstanding Player at the Class 2A State Tournament last year, Hoffman is the lone returning starter for the 2A defending champs. A remarkably efficient forward who led the Cougars in scoring and rebounding, he’ll likely be asked to be a bit more selfish this year for Cascade as they break in new pieces. He’ll push Soenksen for POY honors.
2019 Dawson Stoll, Northeast Goose Lake (12.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.0 steals)
A dangerous shooter from deep, Stoll is also the leading returning assist man in the division. Look for his assist numbers to skyrocket playing alongside Braeden Hoyer, and with Collin Swanton and his 132 assists graduated.
2020 Ethan Sahr, North Cedar (15.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.1 steals)
The junior guard led the Knights in scoring last year, and could lead the division in scoring this year after the team graduated their next four scorers. Capable of scoring from all three levels, he’ll need to have some big nights if North Cedar wants to be competitive this season.
2019 Braeden Hoyer, Northeast Goose Lake (11.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 64.8 FG%)
Only his teammate Luke Empen pulled down more rebounds than Hoyer last season, and he’ll probably average a double-double this year. A bouncy, 6-6 big man who runs the floor and defends the rim, he’s primed to have a massive senior year.
