Preseason All-Conference: North Iowa Cedar West
Player of the Year: 2020 Peyton Pope, West Marshall
Far and away the leading returning scorer in the division, Pope is one of the state’s best shooters, and he should lead the Trojans back to the top of the division this season.
First Team
2020 Peyton Pope, West Marshall (21.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 89 3PM, 48.6 3P%)
Only two players in the state made more 3s last season, and only eight who attempted at least 75 of them made them at a higher clip than Pope did last season. He’s one of the most deadly shooters in the state.
2019 Alex Hames, AGWSR Ackley (14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.1 steals, 61 3PM)
The second leading returning scorer in the division, the 6-1 wing is capable of scoring effectively from all three levels. He’s also the leading returnee in steals, making an impact on both ends of the floor.
2019 Jonny Neff, BCLUW (13.3 points, 5.3 rebounds)
The Comets won just four games last season, but Neff put up solid numbers and did so efficiently, shooting 48.8% from the floor. Look for his numbers to improve with three of the top four players returning.
2019 Joseph Halverson, West Marshall (10.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 41.2 3P%)
Mr. Versatility. Not only did Halverson nearly average a double-double, despite being listed at just 6-1, he also shot 41.2% from behind the arc and ranked second on the Trojans in assists.
2019 Jackson Kiburis, Gladbrook-Reinbeck (9.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists)
Two years ago the Rebels were Joe Smoldt’s team. Last year they were Caden Kickbush’s team. This year, they’re Jackson Kiburis’ group. The 5-10 senior guard can score from anywhere and excels at getting to the rim. Look for him to be among the leaders in free throw attempts in not only the division, but potentially the state as well.
