Thompson should be one of the top teams in Class B this season due to the presence of one of the best point guards in the state: Cadyn Schwabe.
Schwabe averaged 15 points and five assists last season, helping the Tommies win 20 games and advance to the region championship game. He’s back along with several other key players and looking forward to a big season.
“I’m very excited about the upcoming year,” said Schwabe. “I think we have a good mix of guys this year and I am very excited to get started on working with them. We have high expectations.”
Schwabe spent the grassroots season playing with ND Attack where he had a chance to be part of a group comprised of a lot of the top talent in the state and compete against elite competition all over the midwest.
“I had a lot of fun this summer playing with a great group of guys and a great coach in Taylor Jones,” said Schwabe. “They were a lot of fun to work with and I think I improved my game a lot.”
Schwabe is an explosive ball handler and does his best work when he’s attacking gaps, getting to the rim and either creating for himself or his teammates. He’s a solid outside shooter but his quickness and handles make him extremely dynamic when he’s getting downhill.
Schwabe would be an interesting college basketball prospect but ultimately his future looks like it’ll be on the diamond where he’s a terrific baseball player. He’s got a number of schools recruiting him and he’s taking his time with the process of picking where he’ll end up.
“I’m kind of a utility guy but I mostly play catcher and middle infield,” said Schwabe. “I’ve been in contact with a lot of coaches and I’m hoping to set up visits after football season. It will become a priority for me then. I would say I’m looking for a good town to be in that I like, a program that is successful on and off the field and a coaching staff that I feel will help me improve my game.”
