PHI Freshman Showcase: Team 1 Evaluations
The last bit of the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase is coming out over the next few days as we finish up our evaluations for the event. Today, we are looking at Team 1 and those players full breakdowns.
#35 Armon Jarrad
5’11 PG Mt. Vernon-Fortville (IN)
Armon is a tall guard who can play well on the wing. Handles the ball pretty well and showed that he can score it from outside and on drives. Good speed with the ball and can play in space. Really long and athletic, with tons of room to grow physically.
#37 Jeriel Mitchell
5’11 PG Lawrence North (IN)
Jeriel is a strong lead guard with a ton of creativity in the lane. Quick and athletic in the lane but lacks size/vertical. However, he was among the craftiest guys we saw. Advanced scoring ability in the lane with a chance to be highly productive.
#41 Nick Klaiber
6’0 PG Bloomington North (IN)
Nick is a big lead guard who has outstanding handles and can create well not only for himself but others. Good passer who sees plays develop. Decent shooter who could use a little more strength and see the release become more consistent. Skill is way ahead of schedule.
#81 Reggie Bass
6’3 SF Muncie Central (IN)
Reggie is a long, strong wing who has a good lefty stroke from distance. Release is a bit wonky but consistent and he hits for a lot from three. Very talented scorer who has the upside to draw in colleges already. Could still grow and be a high-end wing scorer at the next level.
#99 Dayton DeVaughan
6’8 C Martinsville (IN)
Dayton is a long, lean post player with great size and some strength on the frame. Really solid mobility and can get up and down the floor pretty well. Has the ability to play tall in the post and rebounding the ball pretty well using his length. Needs strength and a little more assertiveness on offense.
#11 Charlie Smith
5’9 PG Fishers (IN)
Charlie is a smaller guard but has a good frame with some strength in play already. Plays more going at the rim and mixing it up down low. LIke his speed and burst when he has space in the open floor. Will need to find more perimeter shots but showed he could score at the rim well.
#31 Brady Dunn
5’11 PG Christian Academy (IN)
Dunn is a guard with good size that still needs to grow into his game. Mobility and handles are fine but was looking to score more in the low block than on the perimter. Good release on his jumper, a little low but nice and repeatable and quick.
#51 Amhad Jarrad
6’1 SG Mt. Vernon-Fortville (IN)
Amhad is a big wing who can rack up points really well. Very aggressive and quick with the ball. Thought he did well picking his spots and getting into the lane but still mixing in perimeter jumpers. Does well with his handles and creates separation really well for his size.
#61 DeMarzhay White
6’2 SF Evansville North (IN)
White is a big, long wing who plays more of a smooth game at this point. Doesn’t have a ton of scoring ability yet but could turn into a productive scorer from the wing. Had some really solid plays on the defensive end. Body should really grow and could become more of a tall wing or forward by the end.
