Today, we’re starting with Southeast and Northwest Ohio. Tomorrow is Northeast Ohio, Central on Friday, Dayton and Cincinnati this weekend.
Considering the high school season’s imminence, it makes sense to compare players to guys they’ll compete against in the coming months. All the while, keep in mind that we want to focus mostly on the non-Division I prospects, instead bringing awareness to lesser-known recruits.
(#24) DaSean Nelson, 6’6” F, Rogers
It is an important upcoming year or so for Nelson that will decide if he goes D-I, D-II, or JUCO after high school. Taking care of business in the classroom while continuing to show scoring ability off the dribble is paramount for his recruitment. His game has rapidly developed, and we hope to be continually impressed a year from now.
(#73) Jackson Sizemore, 6’7” F, Perrysburg
Sizemore played a supplementary role for C2K Elite this summer, leading to him being passed by some peers in the rankings. We definitely owe it to him to watch Perrysburg this season and will do so to track his development. He has promising pieces in his game such as size, mobility, rebounding ability. Finishing consistently and hitting the outside jumper is going to be important for him.
(#101) Harley Day, 6’6” F/C, North Union
Day is a power post player who has a knack for finishing against more athletic forwards. He creates space with foot-work and has a soft touch around the basket. He’s a reliable scoring option in the post, although most of his contributions happen through ball screens and box outs.
(#122) Jamir Simpson, 6’3” W, Lima Senior
Simpson, along with teammate Josiah Fulcher, is new to the area from Pickerington Central. He could be a mismatch for most teams in the TRAC. Although he’s not super tall, Simpson is physical enough to be a small ball four at this level. He combines sheer strength with the ability to make a play from the perimeter. Simpson should also provide defensive versatility.
(#148) Jadakis Mack, 6’1” W, Lima Senior
July was our first time really checking out Mack, who played at the 17U level with Ohio Reign. His verticality is electric. Mack was easily the most athletic player in two of the games we saw of his in Indy. The junior uses his athleticism to make an impact on the glass, defend multiple positions, and occasionally finish in the lane. He has some room to grow as a shooter, though.
