The high school season is approaching rapidly, and with that in mind, this seems like the most time-appropriate way to break it down. These kids will be competing for conference and regional championships with each other very soon!
In case you missed it: We have covered Northwest Ohio Point Guards, Guards/Wings, and Forwards and Northeast Ohio Point Guards, Guards, Wings, and Forwards.
(#10) Javohn Garcia, 6’3”, Pickerington Central
Beginning with his transfer from Independence to Pick Central, Garcia’s two-and-a-half-year journey has been fascinating. It has culminated in a Miami (OH) commitment. Potentially, though, Garcia’s crowning achievement could be a State Championship as the Tigers’ starting point guard. He enters the season with a surplus of complimentary guards surrounding him, from shooters to fellow playmakers. More than anything, Garcia has proven to be the perfect player to lead a talented cast. Along with collegiate length and quickness, he has the intangible ability to anticipate plays on both ends and manage games from start to finish.
(#22) Jeremiah Keene, 6’0”, Westerville North
Playing alongside 2018 graduate Julius Brown (Lincoln Memorial) in the backcourt, Keene was able to focus on his strengths as a scorer last season. As an off-ball point guard Keene had the ultimate green light and Brown’s slashing ability resulted in open looks. Now, look for Keene to be the central playmaker in their offense. If the grassroots season was any indication, expect a steady dose of pick-and-roll from Westerville North this season.
(#63) Sean Marks, 5’10”, Olentangy
Marks is one of the 19 seniors verbally committed to a Division II program. Ohio Dominican is bringing in an elite shooter whose range extends comfortably to about 25 feet. The threat of that jumper manipulates the spacing of defenses. At the high school level, Marks is one of the best scorers in the state. He dominates games with efficient shot-making and a ball-secure handle.
(#101) Jordan McMilian, 6’1”, Westerville South
McMilian’s game is built on quickness and speed. He penetrates the defense at will with his side to side game and abrupt beelines to the rack. His length is also an asset, one which he uses to defend and build an advantage as a finisher in traffic.
(#126) Brandon Beavers, 6’2”, Harvest Prep
Beavers established himself on the recruiting scene by pulling in a Shawnee State offer recently. After seeing him at the Hidden Gems Showcase, he looks like a reliable point guard option who plays within himself and makes plays for others. Beavers is a lefty. He changes speeds well and uses that shiftiness to get to the rim.
