Nick Hoyt Commits to Briar Cliff
Harrisburg senior guard Nick Hoyt committed to play basketball at Briar Cliff next season. We talked with Hoyt to discuss what went into the decision and more.
Nick Hoyt is ranked 10th in the 2019 class in our SD 2019 Rankings.
PHD: What made the decision to go and play at Briar Cliff?
NH: After a lot of conversation with my family, coaches, and friends, I chose Briar Cliff because I feel it’s where I fit in best and they have a winning culture there that I just want to be a part of and help continue it.
PHD: Why did you choose them over other colleges that recruited you?
NH: I chose Briar Cliff over the other schools recruiting me because I really love the system Coach Svagera and Coach Shipley have installed there, and I think I fit into the system really well because I like to spread the floor and shoot threes. Also, Coach Svagera and Shipley showed the most interest and recruited me the hardest throughout the process.
PHD: How excited are you to play for Briar Cliff?
NH: I am very excited to get the opportunity to play at Briar Cliff next year and I’m happy to get a chance to make an impact in the program and hopefully continue the success they’ve had there for a while now. Also, I’m really excited to play with my High School teammate, Wil Johnson, and guys I’m familiar with around South Dakota like Ethan Freidel. Lastly, I can’t wait to play for Coach Svagera and his staff and get on campus and start the next chapter of my life and basketball career.
PHD: What do you expect from yourself and your team this final year?
NH: Going into this season we have a lot of expectations because of what we did last year, but we aren’t guaranteed anything. We’re a hungry group that wants to prove we can win a State Championship, and that is the goal. For myself, I want to continue to improve as a leader and make my teammates better throughout the season
