Most Likely 2A Teams to Breakout
As we get into the swing of previews, we will track each class with teams that we are interested in. First up in our list of superlatives are the 2A teams that we think will break out this season. Up next will be the five 1A breakout teams.
Alexandria (14-10 last year)
Alexandria is a team that has a ton of potential this year and should do some pretty special things. Avery Paddock returns for his senior year and is going to have a big year. They return their top two scorers and should be able to make a run in the postseason this year. Alexandria is a team that has been on the verge of really getting it done, and after the momentum they created last year, this could be the year.
Lapel (14-13 last year)
Lapel is a team that lost a pivotal player last year in Austin Lyons, but return their potent scorer Luke Richardson. This is a team that a lot of people are going to be down on but I think that will still compete. They have the pieces there to be able to score the ball and play defense and they should get off to a fast start to the year. If they do that, they are going to be really good.
Marquette Catholic (13-15 last year)
Marquette Catholic should have been really good for the last couple of years with a host of solid players coming through the ranks, but they have underperformed a little bit. They have won a sectional in each of the last five years as well as a state championship, but with this much talent they should be winning more games. This is going to be the last chance for Mrquette Catholic to go deep in the tournament and with guys like Colin Kenney and Joe Andershock now seniors, this team should come out with guns blazing.
Winamac (14-8 last year)
Winamac played solid last year but this year’s team has the potential to be really special. They didn’t have any seniors on the team last year and return one of the most dynamic players in 2A, Calvin Larkin. Larkin scored 18.5 points a game last year and is going to bump that north of 20 this season. Winamac is a senior laden team this year as they have six seniors, all who will contribute. A solid team to have on your radar who could win a lot of games.
Wabash (12-11 last year)
Wabash has been on the verge of a breakout year for a little while now as they have increased their win total in each of the past three years. This year is going to no different as they are going to have a solid squad after losing only two main contributors on a very young squad. Trenton Daughtry, a junior, returns after averaging 16.9 points a year ago. They have the pieces this year to really make some noise.
