Most Likely 1A Team to Lead the State in Scoring
As we get into the swing of previews, we will track each class with teams that we are interested in. Up next in our list of superlatives are the 1A teams that we think have the best chance to lead the state in scoring. Next, we will dive into the 4A teams that you’ll have to watch this year.
Barr-Reeve
Barr-Reeve returns its entire starting lineup from a team that lost in semi-state. They are under new direction and they are going to move at a quicker pace than most are used to. They will be led by inside man Keegan O’Neill and guard Gabe Gladish. Both of these players had a good summer on the AAU scene and will look to score the ball more this year. The only thing I can see preventing them from scoring a ton of points is other teams holding the ball to slow them down.
Frankton
Frankton does lose a few of their key scorers but return three of their top five scorers from last year. Frankton is going to be very solid again this year and returning leading scorer Kayden Key is going to have a lot to do with that. Key scored 20.3 points a game last year and will look to score the ball even more this year. Frankton will have players step up into bigger roles and replicate the scoring they lost last season. They will contend once again in 1A this year and should be in a good spot to go pretty far in the tournament.
Blackhawk Christian
Blackhawk Christian is an easy choice to lead the state in scoring due to the sheer talent that they bring back. They do lose a bunch of seniors off of last year’s team but they return Frankie Davidson, who improved a ton this summer, and Caleb Furst, the most talented player in the 2021 class in Indiana. Since they are a 1A team it is going to be very tough to stop them once it becomes tournament time just because they play such a tough schedule leading up to it. They are going to put up a lot of points on their fellow small schools.
LaVille
LaVille lost two seniors who had a huge impact on their team last year but they return a core of players who are seniors and should lead the team to another solid year. LaVille has the benefit of playing a fairly easy schedule and with the returning players they have, they should be able to really score as many points as they want. LaVille is going to be a really high scoring team because of those factors and a higher tempo of play this season.
Greenwood Christian
Greenwood Christian returns all but their leading scorer from a year ago. They do, however, gain a transfer in the way of Tim Adetuski. He’s a big forward who is really good using his strength at the rim. Adetuski is going to impose his will on 1A teams this year across the state as he was a big scorer in California. Junior Champ Mccorkle is also a guy who is going to score this year for Greenwood Christian as he returns as their leading scorer a year ago.
