The second best junior in Tennessee ventured west yesterday for his first official recruiting visit.
He will probably not take another in 2018 though he is permitted five before June. The official schedule is currently thin.
“Only one – he is currently at University of Arkansas,” shared Whitehaven Head Coach Faragi Phillips.
Arkansas has not signed a Tennessee prospect in three seasons. Jackson South Side guard Jaylen Barford picked Arkansas in 2016 after attending Motlow State Community College.
Typically Arkansas Head Coach Mike Anderson works his recruiting inside-out largely by attracting the best players in-statearned and filling in the gaps.
Matthew Murrell is a hot name throughout the southeast.
Memphis, SLU, Florida, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Cincinnati, Jacksonville State, Iowa State, Illinois, and Tennessee offered.
The Florida offer is interesting as the Gators also offered Hamilton Heights Christian Academy 2020’s Bayron Matos and Samson Ruzhentsev.
Samson essentially plays the same position as Matthew.
The high major prospect Murrell will be a candidate for Mr. Basketball this spring alongside James Wiseman (Memphis East).
As talented and skilled as Murrell is, recall the Tigers advanced to the Class AAA Championship last season without Murrell (injury). Their program is more than one man.
Arkansas is also plenty more than a single player. If you are going to add a single player to a deep program why not make it elite multi-faceted scorer Matthew Murrell?
