IAABO Fall League (Top 2021 and 2022 Players)
Here is a look at the top underclassmen at the IAABO Fall League at Parkway North
2021
Brendan Deters 6’1″ Troy: A nice young point guard with good size and some slick ball handling ability. He is a combination of his two older brothers, Derek and Drew, who were former standouts at Troy. He can shoot the ball from distance like his brother Drew and pass the ball like Derek. He has a lot of court savvy.
Raeshon Petty 5’9″ Parkway North: A slick point guard who had an impressive day with his ability to get to the basket and make plays. Defenders had trouble staying in front of him all day as he got to the basket and finished with layups and floaters, plus he had some nice drop offs to open teammates for easy baskets.
Brandon Lightfoot 6’5″ Parkway North: A nice young combo forward who was a revelation to me on Sunday with his offensive skills and high motor. He runs the court well and scored on a variety moves around the basket and drives off the dribble. He also hit an open 3-pointer off the catch.
Wunya Brown 5’11” St. Mary’s: A small quick guard with an impressive set of offensive skills. He showed the ability to score at all three levels. He has good 3-point shooting range and the ability to create his own offense off the dribble. He can play either guard spot effectively.
Hasani Spann 6’0″ MICDS: A young microwave who can heat up an offense instantly with his ability to knock down 3-pointers in bunches, where he is very good off the catch. He is also a very solid on ball defender who will use his quickness and footwork to harass opposing ball handlers.
Aaron Hendricks 6’5″ MICDS: A solid young post who was one of the best rebounders on the day. He got good position and did a good job of going to get the ball, even out of his area. He runs the court well and has improved as a finisher around the basket with both hands. He will continue to improve with added physical strength.
Anthony Lewis 6’0″ St. Dominic: The solid combo guard was one of the most impressive perimeter shooters I watched during the day. He has a smooth stroke from long distance and he made shots off the catch and also had a couple of nice pull up jumpers in transition.
2022
Brandon Mitchell 6’4″ MICDS: A very talented wing who has size, a versatile skill set and a high basketball IQ to be an impact player early. He is a good ball handler who is very comfortable in the facilitator role, but he also has the ability to get buckets at all three levels. He made a number of open 3-pointers, but he can also take the ball off the board and go coast to coast with the finish.
Larry Abbey 5’8″ University City: An excellent pass-first point guard who knows how to play the position. He is a slick ball handler with excellent court vision and some slick handles to maneuver through traffic. He will also knock down open 3-pointers. He’s a throwback point guard who sets the table for everyone else before he begins to eat. Impressive.
Luke Busateri 6’2″ Timberland: A solid young wing player who has the ability to score and pass the ball. He had some nice takes to the basket where he took the contact and finished well. He has good size to go along with his physical strength. He plays with a lot of confidence and he also likes to defend.
