Hillsborough County Fall League: Monday Night Notes
I made the stopover to Hillsborough High School on Monday night to check out the fall league action with Chamberlain and Sickles.
Here is a look at some of the noteworthy performances by team.
Hillsborough
—2019 forward Josh Gloster stuck out from the jump. Looks are deceiving with him. He wears goggles but is highly athletic and threw down a couple ferocious dunks in transition. 2019 forward Warren McLymont was his normal self while contributing as a slasher and scorer. 2019 point guard Christian De Leon takes risks but his fancy ball handling and high IQ passing give him an edge. Lastly, 2021 guard Jalen Harris did a fine job when De Leon was on the bench in terms of running the offense and attacking the rim.
Sickles
—My top three for Sickles include 2022 guard Javohn Thomas, 2019 guard Daniel Rogers and 2019 guard Julian Canuelas. All three were battling all night for the new-look Gryphons. Thomas has the chance to be very special with his combination of vision passing, elusive attacking and overall athleticism. Rogers is the jack of all trades player you want on your varsity squad as he hustles for loose balls, fights for rebounds and draws contact as a driver. Canuelas is good with the ball in his hands and a very productive 3-point shooter at that.
Chamberlain
—A pair of 2019 guards stuck out for me on the Chamberlain squad. David Morales couldn’t get his shot to fall often, but he keeps possessions alive with his willingness to grab rebounds and dive for loose balls. Beethova Loriston did more of the same and was able to get to the free throw quite a bit with his slashing ability.
