Cumberland County Public School Opening Night Matchups To See!
Northern vs Westover: Both of these squads have achieved success over the years but one reason that this could be a fun game to watch is due to the 2020 prospects that will be taking the floor. Northern features Ricky Council IV who turned plenty of heads this spring and summer, while Westover features Traymond Willis-Shaw who is a player that is slowly but surely moving up the recruitment ranks and radars.
Lumberton vs Terry Sanford: This is one that we find very intriguing, the Bulldogs are a young team with a nice amount of talent and will look to get things done by committee. 2020 Yates Johnson & Jay Hickman are two of the players that we expect to player a major role for the squad. Lumberton is a bit more experienced and will look to get contributions from 2020 Guard Jordan McNeill who has been playing varsity since his freshman year as well as 6’5 Junior Kwashek Breeden who handles his business on the court and on the field.
Jack Britt vs Pine Forest: Jack Britt features one of the best players in the county in Forward Calvin Washington who has already made a verbal to Mount Olive. We also expect some good things from Senior Guard TJ Ellis who has shown some flashes of how good he can be over the spring and summer. Pine Forest has some talent of their own in 2019 Guard Adrian Elliott who can score the ball in bunches, as well as 2019 Forward Miles Ray who is a freakish athlete.
EE Smith vs 71st HS: The Golden Bulls have a new staff and some new faces on the squad so it will be interesting to see how things go early on. They have a younger team but it’s a team that has talent that will just need to mesh. 71st is a team that is full of veteran players including 2019 Forward Brion McLaurin who we have been keeping our eye on for a little while now. McLaurin can score the ball in multiple ways and recently picked up an offer from Fayetteville State.
