Crown Town Classic Preview
Our friends over at Ball is Life led by Webb Wellman and his crew have put together an event in Charlotte that will rival some of the regions top tournaments. Here is a look at The Crown Town Classic and the participating teams for the tournament held on December 21 and 22.
Hickory HS-Led by Cody Young, the Red Tornadoes are coached by Team CP3 coach Andy Poplin who also led Concord HS to a couple of state championships almost a decade ago.
Northside Christian-The Charlotte based school is a name brand in the state at the private school level and this year are led by 2020 F Jaden Seymour (considered by many to be a high-major recruit) and 2022 Jalen Hood-Schifino.
Charlotte Country Day-Alex Tabor leads Charlotte Country Day into the Crown Town Classic, Tabor is a 6’2 guard that averaged nearly 14 points per game last season for the 19-14 Country Day team.
Butler HS-Coached by Myron Lowery will be led by 2019 guard Raquan Brown, a strong built tough Team Charlotte kid that can score and defend with the best of them in the Queen City. Butler also features 5’8, 2021 guard Jordan McPhatter who is a blur with the ball and able to score it.
Cannon School-The Che Roth coached team brings one of the top freshman in the state to The Crown Town Classic with Jaden Bradley. He is a superb athlete that is known for his athleticism and ability to get up and down the floor.
Greensboro Day-One the perennial powers in the state for the last 15-20 years, Freddy Johnson brings in the talent to the Greensboro based school. This year they will feature one of the top backcourts in the region and possibly the state with Carson McCorkle (Virginia commit) and Camren Hayes both 2021 guards. Also in the mix is James Madison commit Mike Fowler and Nick Evtimov both of whom will play in the paint.
Trinity Academy of Raleigh–Isaiah Todd, one of the top players in the country for the 2020 class is now in Raleigh and will lead Trinity Academy.
Walkertown HS-2020 guard Jalen Cone brings his high-flying, high scoring game to Charlotte to be on display. He is one of the most electrifying guards in the region and is on track to be a top-50 prospect nationally. Recently was offered by Wake Forest.
Virginia Episcopal
Trinity Christian (Fayetteville)-Heath Vandevender brings his Trinity Christian squad who recently won the NCISAA 1-A state title to Charlotte. This year they feature Providence commit Greg Gantt, an all-state type player that is ranked in the top 75 nationally.
Cox Mill HS-Duke commit Wendell Moore brings arguably the best team in the state over the past two seasons (winners of the last two NCHSAA 3-A state title) to the tournament. Another state title for Jody Barbee and he solidifies his name as probably the best 3-A coach in state history. Cox Mill also features guard Caleb Stone-Carrawell and Cody Kline.
Durham Academy-The MJ Rice show is coming to the Crown Town Classic as one of the highest rated freshman in the country shows up with his Durham Academy team. Rice is as athletic as they come and is a pure scorer.
Providence Day–Cyncier Harrison is the one to watch this year after graduation of Devon Dotson (Kansas), Trey Wertz (Santa Clara) and Isaac Suffren (Lafayette).
