Contenders, Prospects, & Sleepers: UIL 6A-III District 22
It is October 31st, 2018 and that means its only days away from UIL season opening games. Let’s take a dive into various UIL Districts, and begin previewing teams and the players to watch! Today we dive into the UIL 6A-III District 22!
Pre-Season Player of the Year
I have a Co-MVP for District 22. Atascocita’s junior Dylan Dawson and Sam Rayburn sophomore Keon Edwards. Dylan Dawson is a guard who can score the ball in high volumes. He can score on all 3 levels of the court. Plays tough defense. Keon is a nationally touted prospect who does it all. He is a Point Forward who has excellent court vision. Runs the lanes very well, and scores the ball at a high rate around the rim.
Team to Beat
Atascocita will be the team to beat in the district. The Eagles may not be very big in height but they are loaded with talent. Atascocita is a traditional playoff school year in and year out. Last year the Eagles went 28-7 (13-1) and made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. They have three seniors, two juniors, five sophomores, and 1 freshman.
Biggest Threat
Humble High School Wildcats will be a big threat. Although they are moving up from 5A to 6A they will not miss a beat. Last year they went 30-9 (18-0) and loss in the 3rd round of the playoffs to eventual state champs.
