Contenders, Prospects, & Sleepers: 6A Region II District 16
It is October and that means its only days away from the UIL season opening games. Let’s take a dive into various districts, and begin previewing teams and players to watch! Today we dive into the UIL 6A-II District 16!
Pre-Season Player of the Year
Ja’Mare Redus is the favorite to win MVP in District 16. He is a Texas Southern commit who will lead his team this year, just as he did last year. Redus is a tough assignment for whoever has to guard him on a nightly basis.
Team to Beat
Eisenhower will be the team to beat this year. They will be led by the Redus Twins Ja’Mare and Ja’Mere. Two smart, quick, and strong point guards will be a problem for all the teams within the District. Patrick Punch a sophomore, will also add to the mix. He can shoot the long ball as well as put you in the rim. They look to improve on where they left off last year as they reached the regional semifinals. They went 29-8 overall last year and 11-3 in the district.
Biggest Threat
Spring High School will also have a very strong run in district play. They will be led by senior guards Keionte Cornelius and Christyon Eugene. They will be a threat to IKE. Will they have enough to beat them at least once in the two district meetings? They have components to make a push into the playoffs.
