It is October and that means its only days away from season opening games. Let’s take a dive into the various districts, and begin previewing teams and players to watch! Today we dive into the 6A-II District 14!
Pre-Season Player of the Year
Delor “DJ” Johnson is the top candidate for MVP. DJ is a Southern University commit. Looks to lead his team in District 14 to a playoff birth. Last year he averaged 16 points per game, and help led his team to a 17-13 record. Delor will be a handful in District play a tough bill for whoever has to guard him. Look for DJ to make a big statement in his senior campaign.
Team to Beat
Cypress Springs will be the team to beat in the District. They play great team ball and really good defense. Cameron Scott is the returning leading scorer from last years team who went 24-10, and made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. They will also receive contributions from junior Davon Wright and senior Bonke Maring.
Biggest Threat
Cypress Ranch will be a threat and a top team in District 14. With the pre-season MVP DJ Johnson leading the way. Expect for Cy Ranch to make a push and challenge Cy Springs for the top spot.
Sleeper
Bridgeland High School, although this will be there first Varsity season, expect big play from this team. The Bears will be anchored by junior Jason Frost and sophomore Jared Viesca. They also have good guard play with junior Cam Clardy and Nate Weeks. Do not sleep on the Bridgeland Bears.
